Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that the possible de jure recognition of Russian control over Crimea would be a “time bomb.”
Nausėda’s statement was reported by LRT.
This was his response to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said that Crimea should remain Russian.
“If we do what is being suggested and recognize Crimea de jure as Russian, it will be a time bomb that will keep exploding again and again,” he said.
Nausėda added that first and foremost, Ukraine—which was attacked—should be asked what it thinks about this.
“Because this is the country that has suffered the heaviest losses, where many people have been affected… Infrastructure has been destroyed, the economy has been devastated. So don’t they have the right to say an important word about what they think of these proposals?” he emphasized.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine will never legally recognize any temporarily occupied territories as Russian.
