G7 leaders have agreed to expand military assistance to Ukraine, strengthen sanctions against Russia, and help Kyiv prepare for the coming winter, French President Emmanuel Macron said following the summit in Évian, UATV English reports.

Speaking at a closing press conference on June 17, Macron said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation enabled G7 leaders to hold an in-depth discussion on Ukraine and reach important agreements.

“First of all, there is unwavering support for Ukraine and solidarity with its people, whose critical infrastructure and cultural heritage have come under attack after numerous strikes on civilians,” Macron said.

He noted that all G7 members agreed on the need to continue supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity and recognized that the balance of power has shifted significantly in recent months.

“Ukraine is advancing, resisting, and Russia is retreating. That is why we all agreed to increase deliveries of air defense assets, additional systems and interceptors, as well as long-range capabilities,” Macron said.

According to the French president, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of mobilizing the American defense industry to provide the required equipment.

“On these issues, the American president insisted on mobilizing U.S. defense production and ensuring the capacity to supply such equipment. Several of us, responding to requests from Ukraine over recent months, also stressed the importance of licensing and manufacturing on Ukrainian soil in order to move even faster,” Macron said.

The G7 leaders also agreed to provide additional support to help Ukraine withstand the next winter.

“We unanimously agreed to provide additional assistance to enable Ukraine to prepare for the coming winter, with a G7 initiative to support energy infrastructure and, naturally, to rebuild many of the things that have been destroyed and that have plunged many civilians into cold and darkness,” Macron said.

In addition, the leaders committed to increasing pressure on Russia through tougher sanctions.

“We committed ourselves to increasing pressure, including by strengthening our sanctions. This renewed mobilization of the G7 to intensify pressure on Russia is extremely important,” Macron said.

The agreements reached at the summit include enhanced air defense support, stronger sanctions against Moscow, and measures aimed at reinforcing Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of winter.
