The NATO summit to be held on July 7–8 in the Turkish capital is expected to become an important milestone in shaping the future security architecture of the Alliance.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made the statement in an address to the nation following a government meeting, UATV English reports.
“We see that Türkiye’s position within NATO and the developments taking place in our region are increasing interest in and expectations for the Ankara summit. Aware of these expectations, we continue working to ensure that this summit becomes a landmark event that will determine the future of the Alliance’s security architecture,” he said.
The president stressed that since joining NATO in 1952, Türkiye has remained one of the Alliance’s key members.
“We are among the countries that provide the most significant support to NATO peacekeeping missions in various regions of the world,” Erdoğan noted.
The Turkish leader added that the country is actively preparing to host a number of international events and summits.
In particular, the NATO Parliamentary Summit will take place in Istanbul on June 28–29. The 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States is scheduled to be held in Ankara this autumn. Türkiye will also host the 77th International Astronautical Congress and the United Nations Climate Change Conference later this year.
As previously reported, Türkiye will deploy around 70,000 security personnel to safeguard the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7–8.
