President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss the implementation of agreements reached with partners during the G7 Summit, with a focus on strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses and securing U.S. licenses for the production of air defense systems, UATV English reports.

“As always, it was a good meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. We discussed the steps agreed upon with partners during the G7 Summit. The most important issue is strengthening our defense and obtaining U.S. licenses to produce air defense systems,” Zelenskyy said.

The two leaders also discussed expanding the PURL initiative through additional contributions from partner countries.

According to the Ukrainian president, the program has proven vital in protecting civilian lives and it is important to ensure that deliveries of anti-ballistic missiles proceed as quickly as possible.

“We discussed replenishing PURL with new contributions. This program is helping save lives, and it is important that supplies of anti-ballistic missiles are delivered as rapidly as possible,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy also thanked Rutte for inviting Ukraine to the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.

“I thanked him for the invitation to the NATO summit, which will take place in Ankara. We will work to ensure that it delivers concrete results for Ukraine’s defense,” the president said.

The meeting came as Ukraine and its partners intensify efforts to bolster air defenses, expand defense-industrial cooperation, and accelerate the delivery of interceptor missiles amid continued Russian missile and drone attacks.

“Thank you, Mark, for your support,” Zelenskyy said.
