Belarusian court has sentenced a Ukrainian to three years in prison for participating in protests

A court in Belarus has sentenced a 32-year-old Ukrainian citizen to three years in a maximum security penal colony for participating in protests in Minsk after the 2020 presidential election.

This is reported by UA with the reference to the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus.

“In August-September 2020 citizen F. during unauthorized mass events in the central part of Minsk, together with other persons, violated public order and blocked traffic, interfered with the normal operation of enterprises and organizations” – it is said in the message of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus.

Also, according to the report, the Ukrainian created and administered  a Telegram chat, which planned and discussed the application of protest symbols and inscriptions to various elements of the urban environment.

“Acting as organizer, F. found and manufactured tools and means of crime, including spray paint in spray cans, brushes, gloves, solvent, and stencils. Distributed the roles of performers, as well as personally participated in the application on the facades of at least 27 buildings of inscriptions and images of a protest nature. As a result of such actions, losses amounting to more than BYN 2.500 (Belarusian ruble) were caused” – the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus said.

A Belarusian court has sentenced a Ukrainian to 3 years in a maximum security penal colony and confiscation of a mobile phone.

The court’s verdict has not come into force, it can still be appealed.

To remind, dozens of people detained in Belarus for comments on social networks about a shootout between IT manager and Belarusian security forces in Minsk on September 28.
