President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his working visit to the United States.

The head of state thanked the Turkish leader for his firm position on the non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, expressed during his speech at the session of the UN General Assembly.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the strategic nature of Ukrainian-Turkish relations and the importance of building up the pace of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, military-technical and humanitarian spheres. In particular, they discussed issues of interaction in the energy sector in the context of energy diversification.

The President of Ukraine also thanked Recep Tayyip Erdogan for supporting the Crimean Platform. The heads of states discussed the pace of implementation of joint projects, in particular, on the construction of housing for representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. They also paid attention to the issue of the release of the illegally detained Crimean Tatars.

The parties also considered the issue of maintaining a stable security situation in the Black Sea region. The presidents agreed to step up work on completing the process of concluding an Agreement on a free trade zone between Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan accepted the invitation to visit Ukraine to hold the 10th meeting of the Strategic Council.
