Ukrainian Defense Intelligence has uncovered critical new details regarding North Korea’s artillery support for Russia, estimating that Pyongyang has supplied a total of 120 long-range artillery systems to bolster Russia’s ongoing military operations.
This revelation was made public by Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR), during an interview with The War Zone.
Budanov confirmed that the artillery pieces in question are already deployed across several front-line areas.
The weapons range from 122-mm D-74 howitzers and 107-mm infantry MLRS to 240-mm multiple rocket launchers and the formidable 170-mm M1989 Koksan self-propelled guns.
These artillery systems are proving highly effective in combat, particularly the M1989 Koksan, known for its precision and long-range capabilities, reaching up to 60 kilometers (37 miles).
In addition to these long-range artillery pieces, North Korea has also supplied large quantities of ammunition, including millions of rounds for 122 mm and 152 mm caliber shells, ensuring sustained artillery support for Russian forces.
These deliveries are critical to maintaining Russia’s artillery strength, with further shipments expected given the combat performance of these systems.
Budanov also highlighted that North Korea has reached agreements with Russia to establish UAV production facilities on its soil, enabling Pyongyang to manufacture Shahed-style drones.
With both countries focusing on increasing drone production, Russia’s ability to sustain its offensive capabilities is set to expand, while also posing potential challenges for neighboring South Korea’s defenses.
