The possibility of a Russian invasion of Ukraine is more likely than not. This opinion was expressed by the Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine (2017-2019) Kurt Volker.

This is reported by UA with reference to an interview of the SkyNews with Volker.

According to him, now the situation is the most dangerous since the last Russian invasion in 2014. At the same time, in an interview with CNN, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that NATO is gradually invading Ukraine, so the Kremlin considers it necessary to leave its troops at the borders.

Such statements, according to Volker, are heard from the Kremlin for the sole purpose of preventing Ukraine from becoming a member of the Alliance. “Putin (Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation – ed.) may try to get Russian special forces to act as if they are Ukrainians, attack Russian-led forces in eastern Ukraine in order to give them an excuse to retaliate and invade Ukraine en masse. This is one way to launch an invasion, but there may be other ways” – said the former US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine.
