Due to the situation in Afghanistan, the G7 countries are planning to hold an emergency summit soon. This was reported by the press service of the White House following a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, UA reports.

The meeting will be held in the format of a video conference. Participants look forward to discuss a common strategy and approach to the current situation.

Previously, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell compared the seizure of power in Afghanistan by the Taliban with the occupation of Crimea.

“This is the most important geopolitical event since the Russian invasion to Crimea in 2014. And it will affect the geopolitical balance around the world. We should contact the authorities in Kabul, whatever that power may be. The Taliban won the war, so we will have to talk to them and it is necessary to start a dialogue as early as possible in order to prevent a humanitarian and migration catastrophe” – Borrell said.

Meanwhile, TOLO News in Afghanistan reported that at least 40 people had died at Kabul airport in the past few days. Despite calls from the Taliban to remain calm, many continue to storm the airport, hoping to leave the country. Among those waiting to be evacuated from Afghanistan are 153 Ukrainians, as was previously reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
