When asked how sufficient the US aid will be in terms of time, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan assumed that Ukraine will be provided with everything it needs until the end of 2024.
He said this during a White House press conference on April 24.
Sullivan also confirmed that the White House discreetly sent a “significant” number of ATACMS to Ukraine as part of a $300 million arms package provided by Pentagon in March.
“This followed Russia’s procurement and use of North Korea’s ballistic missiles against Ukraine, as well as Russia’s renewed and escalating attacks against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine,” Sullivan explained, adding that the US “will send more”. He, however, didn’t elaborate on the quantities or a timeline.
But it is known that now the US is supplying long-range ATACMS that can hit up to 300 km deep into Russia’s territory.
Despite the general optimism about the aid for Ukraine, the US politician admitted that the assistance should and could have been provided earlier.
“The consequences of the delay have been felt in Ukraine. Over the past six months, Ukraine has had to ration ammunition. That has resulted in the loss of some territory in the east, including the city of Avdiivka,” he stated.
On April 23, the US Senate approved a foreign aid bill that includes $61 billion in military and economic aid for Ukraine.
