The return of Mikheil Saakashvili to Ukraine can take place not only on the basis of the extradition procedure – Ukraine is looking for the best option for the return of the politician.
This is reported by UA with reference to a briefing by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
“We study the full legal positions of this case and choose the best algorithm that we will use in this case. I emphasize once again that Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine, we do not abandon our citizens in trouble abroad. Therefore, when a decision is made on which way to move, it may not only be extradition, then we will already inform about it” – Kuleba noted.
The minister added that Ukrainian diplomats are in constant contact with Saakashvili.
To remind, the President of Georgia in 2004-2013 and the chairman of the executive committee of the National Council of Reforms of Ukraine Mikheil Saakashvili was detained on October 1, 2021 in Tbilisi. On this day, he arrived home to support the opposition in the upcoming municipal elections.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he would seek the return of Mikheil Saakashvili to Ukraine.
Saakashvili’s lawyers reported about the deterioration of the health of the ex-president of Georgia as a result of the hunger strike, which was announced by the politician.
