Kuleba and Australian Foreign Minister discussed measures to contain Russian aggression

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held the first telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister for Women of Australia Maris Payne, during which the parties discussed a package to deter the Russian Federation from further aggression against Ukraine, including a political, economic and security component.

This is reported by UA with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“Maris Payne assured Dmitry Kuleba of Australia’s unconditional support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, readiness to actively join the efforts of the international community to de-escalate the situation, in particular, through sanctions pressure” – the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The parties also discussed a number of important issues:

  • strengthening defense capabilities, practical support for the development of cyber defense systems in Ukraine;
  • the inclusion of Ukraine in the Australian Generalized System of Tariff Preferences in order to increase the volume of bilateral trade and investment, create additional opportunities for Ukrainian exporters to enter the Australian markets;
  • coordination of efforts in the context of holding Russia accountable for the downing of flight MH17 and achieving justice for the relatives of the victims of this tragedy.

Maris Payne accepted the invitation of Dmitry Kuleba to visit Ukraine this year.

To remind, today, January 19, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell regarding the security situation around Ukraine.
