In contrast to Russian disinformation, TV channels “DOM” and “UA” organized a marathon of truth

TV channels “DOM” and “UA” of the State Enterprise “International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine” held a two-day marathon “Ukraine 30”.

The inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform on August 23, and the solemn events in honor of Independence Day of Ukraine on August 24 were broadcast live, providing balanced information to residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, and countries where TV channels broadcast, including the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

The day of August 23 began with the broadcast of the ceremony of raising of the state flag in Cherkasy region – the geographical center of Ukraine. Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher at the Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Chairman of the Ukrainian Heraldic Society Andriy Hrechylo explained to the audience the meaning of the Ukrainian flag, and told history of its creation. Journalists of the channels were also commenting live from the cities of Kramatorsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and from Cherkasy region.

The next part was devoted to the Crimea Platform summit – the channels broadcast speeches of delegates, high-ranking officials, in Ukrainian with Russian-language subtitles of the main messages. Immediately after the speeches the hosts of the marathon as well as guests in the studio provided prompt explanations and comments.

During the summit, the “DOM” TV channel’s offsite studio worked at the event; there journalists invited delegates for short interviews. During the broadcast, the editorial office received more than 100 messages from the temporarily occupied territories in messengers, while journalists received a large number of comments through social networks. There was a live broadcast of the residents of Crimea, who shared their impressions on the events in Kyiv.

On August 23, the journalists of the channels paid special attention to the extraordinary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. The results of the day were summed up in the final issue of the talk show, with the main topic being “Soft Power of Ukraine“.

In turn the newsroom worked separately, having preparing two 30-minute newscasts on August 23-24, covering all the events that took place in Kyiv and key events in the regions.

On August 24, the morning talk show began with regions broadcasting live stories from the cities of Kyiv, Dnipro, Odessa, and Mariupol. Singer Jamala has also addressed the viewers of the channels.

The channels also broadcast a festive military parade from Kyiv.

The journalists summed up the day live with the guests of the studio – a sociologist, a political scientist, and a former serviceman.

Fulfilling its main mission – informing of residents of the temporarily occupied territories and Russian-speaking countries – the TV channels provided balanced content on Ukraine’s major events on August 23-24, reducing the impact of Russian disinformation through live broadcasts of events and prompt comments by experts.
