The Russian monopolist Gazprom stopped the transit of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine in the direction of Hungary on October 1 from 7 o’clock.

This is reported by the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, UA writes.

Despite the fact that the capacities across Ukraine for access to Hungary were contracted for the entire gas year – from October 1, 2021 to September 30 in 2022 – in the amount of 24.6 million cubic meters per day, no applications for gas transit were received.

CEO of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine Sergiy Makogon said that Ukraine has never violated obligations over the decade of gas supplies to Hungary, moreover, this route is economically profitable, because it is short.

“The monopolization of gas routes by Gazprom, which we are observing now, raises the question of the fundamental principles of the functioning of the EU gas markets – competition and transparency” – he said.

To remind, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Association of Ukrainian Cities signed a memorandum of understanding. The memorandum is based on an agreement that tariffs for heat and hot water will be increased.
