Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov held a series of meetings with senior European Union officials in Brussels to discuss support for Ukraine’s key defense needs and financing mechanisms aimed at strengthening the country’s military capabilities, UATV English reports.

According to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, Fedorov met with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos to discuss assistance in priority defense areas.

The Ukrainian minister emphasized that it is important for Kyiv that EU support remains flexible and responsive to Ukraine’s rapidly evolving needs.

Fedorov also held talks with European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius. The discussions focused on the use of funds provided under the EU loan mechanism, with Ukraine expecting the first tranche to arrive quickly to cover urgent defense requirements.

The two sides reviewed a list of projects Kyiv plans to finance with the loan. Key priorities include drone production and strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

Fedorov and Kubilius also discussed additional avenues for support and the development of mutually beneficial industrial partnerships.

In a separate meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, the parties reviewed various mechanisms supporting both Ukrainian and European security, including the SAFE instrument and the European Peace Facility (EPF).

“For Ukraine, it is critically important that the €6.6 billion available through the EPF be directed toward new procurements aimed at strengthening the country’s defense capabilities,” the Defense Ministry said.

Fedorov thanked the European Union for its comprehensive support and ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine’s security.

The meetings came as Ukraine seeks to accelerate financing for defense projects and expand cooperation with European partners in areas ranging from drones to advanced air defense systems.

Earlier, the United Kingdom announced plans to deliver 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of the year under a package worth nearly $1 billion.
