Germany has pledged to provide Ukraine with nine billion euros every year over the coming years.

German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil made the announcement during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

Earlier, Klingbeil also discussed with Ukraine’s Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko the continuation and possible formats of financial support.

“As finance minister, I emphasized — and this has also been agreed upon by the Federal Government — that we are committed to supporting Ukraine in the coming years by allocating €9 billion annually,” he said.

Upon arriving in Kyiv on the morning of August 25, Klingbeil stressed that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin must understand that Germany’s support for Ukraine will not weaken.

Earlier, Klingbeil rejected the call of Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder from the CSU to deprive all Ukrainian refugees of social benefits.

He also defended Germany’s significant increase in military spending, stating it was necessary to counter the threat posed by Russia’s ruler.
