NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the Alliance must strengthen its collective defense not only against Russia but also in response to the growing military capabilities of China and North Korea.

Speaking to DRM News, Rutte stressed that Russia remains a long-term security threat, while the expanding military potential of Beijing and Pyongyang requires NATO allies to maintain unity and reinforce the Alliance’s deterrence and defense capabilities, UATV English reports.

“NATO exists not only to defend Europe. NATO also helps defend the U.S. homeland and enables the United States to play its impressive, decisive role on the global stage in projecting American power,” Rutte said.

He emphasized that strengthening NATO benefits both Europe and North America and remains essential to protecting the security of all Allied nations.

Earlier, Rutte announced that NATO plans to significantly increase weapons production, adding that allies will soon unveil major new defense contracts and industrial cooperation agreements aimed at expanding the Alliance’s military capabilities.
