Vladimir Putin needs to present Russians with a “major victory,” but such a victory does not exist and will not happen, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to Zelenskyy, this is why Russia continues to terrorize Ukrainian civilians through large-scale missile and drone attacks, UATV English reports.
“Putin needs to sell Russians a ‘major victory,’ but there is no such victory, and there will not be one. That is why Russia is trying to intimidate Ukrainians with massive strikes,” the president said.
Asked whether Crimea could become the factor that motivates Putin to enter peace negotiations, Zelenskyy replied that only an “island called Moscow” could influence the Kremlin leader’s decisions.
The president also said that Putin does not truly know Ukraine, despite repeatedly claiming that he understands and loves Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
“He does not know Ukraine — neither Crimea nor the east of the country,” Zelenskyy said.
