The head of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has announced a new ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war during the days of the Victory Day celebrations.
This was reported by the propaganda agencies TASS and RIA Novosti.
The new ceasefire is set to begin at midnight on May 8 and will last until midnight on May 11. The Russian authorities hope that Ukraine will also join this initiative.
In case of violations of the ceasefire, the Russian army is said to be ready to provide a “proportionate and effective response.”
“The Russian side once again declares its readiness for peace negotiations without preconditions, aimed at addressing the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, and for constructive engagement with international partners,” the Kremlin emphasized.
Ahead of Easter, Vladimir Putin had previously announced an order to “halt all hostilities” from 6:00 PM on April 19 to midnight on April 21. President Zelenskyy responded by stating that Ukraine was ready to join a full ceasefire format and would act reciprocally — “silence in response to silence, strikes in defense against strikes.”
However, Ukraine recorded over 2,000 violations of the “ceasefire” by Russian forces on April 20 alone.
Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine proposed that Russia refrain from any long-range drone and missile strikes on civilian infrastructure for at least 30 days, with the possibility of extending the term.
