A bill aimed at significantly toughening anti-Russian sanctions has been submitted to the US Senate, championed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, according to CBS, as reported by UATV English.

The bipartisan legislation would impose sanctions on senior Russian officials and heavy tariffs on the largest purchasers of Russian oil.

The report notes that the bill’s text was finalized shortly before Graham’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv last week.

Roughly 30 senators have already publicly voiced their readiness to support the measure, which lawmakers hope to get approved before Congress breaks for its August recess.

According to Suspilne, a bipartisan group of senators is pushing for the bill to come to a vote as quickly as possible. They want it passed before the August recess and have pushed back against new provisions previously proposed by President Trump.

At a joint press conference on July 14, senators said the bill had already been coordinated with the White House, enjoys broad bipartisan backing, and requires no further revisions. They described it as the product of nearly two years of negotiations, containing intricate technical sanctions mechanisms — making it inappropriate, in their view, to reopen the text for new amendments.

As previously reported, Trump said there’s a fairly high likelihood he would sign the bill into law.
