According to scientists, due to climate change, Ukraine is moving into a zone of extremely high temperatures and weather cataclysms.

UA reports this with reference to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

It is noted that in the next 30-40 years, the country is threatened with desertification of vast territories.

Ukraine now ranks 9th in the world in terms of arable land area, occupying almost 33 million hectares. More than 60% of arable land in Ukraine is covered with black soil.

Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Abramovsky emphasized that for Ukraine the fight against desertification and land degradation is one of the priority directions of the state environmental policy. For this, the National Action Plan to Combat Land Degradation and Desertification until 2025 was approved, and the corresponding Coordination Council was created.

“Our state has joined the process of establishing and implementing voluntary national targets to achieve a neutral level of land degradation. This work is carried out within the framework of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification”, – Abramovsky said.
