Krzysztof Paszyk, leader of the agrarian Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL), has reported that Warsaw and Kyiv were close to an agreement on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

This is according to Reuters, citing Polish news agency PAP.

“I think it will be possible today and tomorrow to make what is sometimes called a transit actually a transit … I am optimistic about the results,” Paszyk expressed his opinion on the agreement timeline.

Polish Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Siekierski is to meet his Ukrainian counterpart, Mykola Solsky today, on March 27. On Thursday, March 28, the representatives of Polish and Ukrainian governments will assemble

According to PAP, Siekierski says that talks with Ukraine have been difficult.

Considering the results of Ukraine-Poland talks, ambassadors of the 27 EU countries will once again try to approve the extension of the duty-free trade agreement with Ukraine today, on March 27.

On March 13, ambassadors of EU countries on 13 March did not manage to approve extension of measures for liberalisation of trade for Ukraine until 2025. Poland, joined by France, concluded that not enough restrictions had been included in the deal to protect farmers’ interests who had been protesting against flow of Ukraine’s agricultural products for months.

Farmers at the Ukraine-Poland border, however, also blocked humanitarian and military aid for Ukraine, impeding its efforts to fight against Russian aggression.
