Today, on August 23, Ukraine celebrates the National Flag Day.

UA reports this.

The holiday is officially celebrated since 2004.

Today, Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the ceremony of raising the state flag of Ukraine, which took place in the geographical center of the country – the village of Marianivka of Cherkasy region.

“25 steel wings, representing our 24 regions and our Crimea, are a symbol of the fact that together it is much easier to climb up and be on top. Today, thousands of our state flags will be raised in the sky with us at the same time in all regions, cities, all over Ukraine and abroad” – the President said.

According to him, for all of us the flag is more than just an official banner. It is a “bridge that connects dozens of generations”, the “motivating mentor” and the “guardian angel”.

“And although our flag consists of only two colors, it evokes a wide range of emotions. We feel pride when our flag liberates dozens of towns and villages in Donbass. We feel gratitude when our flag helps put out fires in Turkey and Greece. We believe in life when our flag helps fight COVID-19 in Italy. Tears are evoked when our flag accompanies the fallen defenders of Ukraine to paradise. We feel joy when our flag is raised at the Olympics, on Everest, Mont Blanc and even in space. And for me, in addition to all this, the flag is also a sweet parental emotion when you look into your son’s pencil case and realize that the blue and yellow markers were the first to run out” – the president said.
