The High Anti-Corruption Court has chosen a preventive measure for Viktor Yanukovych in the case of the Mezhyhirya residence. The former president was arrested in absentia.

This is reported by UA with the reference to the court decision.

“… to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention. After his arrest and no later than 48 hours from the moment of delivery… consider with his (Yanukovych – ed.) participation the issue of applying the chosen preventive measure” – the judge announced on October 7.

At the end of July 2021, a petition was submitted to High Anti-Corruption Court from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention for former President Viktor Yanukovych and his son in the case of seizure of Mezhyhirya.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has completed the investigation of the case on the seizure of the complex of buildings of the Mezhyhirya residence. As part of this case, the suspicion was reported to Yanukovych in absentia. Later, the case was transferred to National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

To remind, in August 2021 the High Anti-Corruption Court has granted permission to conduct a pre-trial investigation in absentia of the seizure of the Mezhyhirya residence by Viktor Yanukovych and his son.
