The first medals of Ukraine at the Paralympics in Tokyo

Ukrainian fencer Yevhenia Breus won a bronze medal, and swimmer Anton Kol won silver at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

Yevhenia Breus was defeated in the first match of the qualifying round, but won the following three. Therefore, she became the sixth and reached the playoffs.

In the 1/8 finals, the Ukrainian athlete defeated a representative of the PCR (Paralympic Committee of Russia) with a score of 15:7. In the quarterfinals she defeated an athlete from China – 15:11. In the semifinals she lost to a fencer from Georgia – 12:15.

To win the bronze award, Yevhenia Breus fenced with Eva Andrea Hajmasi from Hungary. The Ukrainian fencer managed to win with a score of 15:10.

In 2016, Yevhenia Breus won a bronze medal at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Swimmer Anton Kol competed in S1 class – with a congenital musculoskeletal disorder. He started swimming 100 meters on his back third, but later increased his speed. Already at the finish, the Ukrainian lost to the Israeli Shalabi by less than 0.3 seconds and won the “silver”.

The 31-year-old Ukrainian swimmer competed in the Paralympic Games for the second time. In 2016, he won two bronze medals at the Games in Rio.

To remind, the XVI Summer Paralympic Games officially started on August 24 in Tokyo. Ukraine is represented by 143 athletes who will compete in 15 sports.
