Ukraine’s progress toward membership in the European Union is an essential part of completing Europe’s historic unification, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, UATV English reports.

Marking the 22nd anniversary of the EU’s 2004 enlargement, Sybiha congratulated countries including Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Malta, and Cyprus, calling the expansion one of Europe’s most forward-looking decisions.

“This choice proved that enlargement is not a risk, but one of Europe’s greatest strategic investments,” he said, noting that the 2004 wave helped overcome historic divisions and advance continental unity.

According to Sybiha, that vision remains highly relevant today amid new geopolitical challenges. He emphasized that Ukraine is an integral part of Europe and continues to advance reforms and align with EU standards despite the pressures of war.

“Our European perspective has been recognized, and the accession process is ongoing,” he stated. “Progress based on merit and continued reform efforts will not only transform Ukraine but also contribute to building a stronger and more resilient European Union.”

Sybiha stressed that completing Europe’s unification is a shared responsibility, and that Ukraine’s accession is a vital component of this historic process.
