The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, stated the need to bring to justice those responsible for Russia’s crimes in Bucha and Irpin.
This is stated in the Secretary General’s post on X.
“Four years after the atrocities in Bucha and Irpin, we remember the victims. These crimes are a consequence of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The Council of Europe continues to advance accountability and justice. There can be no impunity,” Berset said.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe emphasized that there can be no impunity.
On the morning of March 31, the EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas arrived in Kyiv together with foreign ministers of EU member states. The visit is taking place on the anniversary of the Bucha massacre.
In Kyiv, Kallas stated that Europe supports Ukraine and will work to hold Russia accountable. Senior EU diplomats have already visited Bucha on the fourth anniversary of its liberation from the Russian army.
Four years ago, on March 31, 2022, Bucha in the Kyiv Region was liberated from Russian troops. On that day, the Defense Forces of Ukraine established control over the city, which became a symbol of resilience and tragedy.
It was a turning point that marked the failure of the aggressor’s attempt to seize the capital.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, more than 9,000 crimes were committed in the Bucha district during 33 days of Russian occupation alone. More than 1,400 civilians were killed, including 37 children.
