Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has criticized calls to reduce support for Ukraine, saying Russia’s latest large-scale missile attack demonstrates why continued assistance to Kyiv and stronger defense capabilities remain essential, UATV English reports.
In a post on X, Kosiniak-Kamysz said Russia’s massive overnight barrage of ballistic and cruise missiles against Ukraine underscores the need to maintain support for Kyiv while accelerating the modernization of Poland’s armed forces.
“This shows how detached from reality are the voices calling for reducing support for Ukraine or slowing the modernization of the Polish army,” the defense minister said.
He stressed that the Polish government will continue strengthening the country’s defense capabilities to ensure its security against potential Russian threats.
“That is why we are doing everything possible to ensure Russian missiles never reach Poland and that nothing threatens our security. We will not back away from this,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote.
His remarks came amid a domestic political debate in Poland over future support for Ukraine. Earlier, Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, distanced himself from comments by senior party member Przemysław Czarnek, who had called for suspending EU funding for arms deliveries and Ukraine’s reconstruction until Kyiv changes its policy toward Poland.
Czarnek linked his proposal to historical disputes affecting Polish-Ukrainian relations, while Polish officials have argued that continued support for Ukraine remains vital to Poland’s own national security.
