Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi visited the Kostiantynivka sector in the Donetsk region, where he met with frontline commanders and said expanding the use of drones remains a top priority for strengthening Ukraine’s defenses, UATV English reports.
In a statement published on Telegram, Syrskyi said the military is increasing the deployment of unmanned systems to deliver more effective firepower against Russian forces while reducing casualties among Ukrainian troops.
The commander-in-chief described the Kostiantynivka sector as one of the most intense areas along the front line, with Russian forces launching up to 20 assaults a day and continuing attempts to infiltrate deeper into the city.
“According to intelligence, Russian occupiers have concentrated up to 145 personnel in Kostiantynivka. Defense Forces units continue counter-sabotage operations in the city. To detect and eliminate enemy infantry and firing positions, our troops are conducting search-and-strike operations while making extensive use of FPV drones and UAV-dropped munitions,” Syrskyi said.
He added that Ukrainian forces are inflicting heavy losses on Russian troops. On July 18 alone, Russian casualties in Kostiantynivka totaled 21 soldiers killed and six wounded, while six enemy shelters were destroyed.
The visit comes as Ukraine continues to expand the battlefield use of drones across the front, viewing unmanned systems as a key element in countering Russia’s numerical advantage in manpower and equipment.
