Pysanky: Traditional Ukrainian Easter Eggs Get Shown Off at Eggs-ibition

These beautifully decorated Ukrainian Easter Eggs , also known as Pysanky, are just part of a broad collection of traditional folk designs and items being exhibited.

Participants can also compete in a contest called “The Easter Miracle”. Last year, Oleh Krets won first place with his modern interpretation of traditional rushnyk cloths.

At the event, there are also lectures and master classes about Pysanky – Ukrainian Easter Eggs which form an important part of the country’s rich folk heritage and rich cultural history.

Many traditions are associated with Easter eggs in Ukraine. It is believed that the pysankas protect the house from evil spirits, that an egg left behind in a shed protects living creatures from diseases, and eggs buried in the ground promises a good harvest.
