Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Estonian President Alar Karis held a joint press conference in Tallinn on June 9. Zelenskyy emphasized that the priorities of Ukrainian diplomacy remain protection against Russian attacks and ensuring the needs of the front line, UATV English reports.
The head of state said he expects important decisions from upcoming summits of the European Union, the G7, and NATO. According to him, June and July could become decisive months.
“First, we need clear progress in diplomacy so that Russia does not believe the war can still bring it any benefits. Ukraine’s positions on the battlefield remain strong. Russia is losing more than 30,000 troops killed and seriously wounded every month. Our long-range strikes against Russian logistics, oil refining, and military production also remain highly effective. Pressure must continue, and Russia must be brought onto a diplomatic track,” Zelenskyy said.
The issue of increasing pressure on Russia is being discussed within the E3 and NB8 formats and will also be raised at the EU summit. Europe must have a strong voice in negotiations, while the United States is prepared to remain actively engaged in the process, the president added.
The second priority remains air defense.
“Not a single day can be wasted when it comes to protecting lives. Today, we held detailed discussions with countries that can help us and outlined exactly what we need. This concerns contributions to the PURL program as well as our bilateral cooperation, particularly in the area of anti-ballistic defense,” Zelenskyy stated.
The third key issue concerns political decisions within the European Union.
According to the president, Ukraine has fulfilled all the conditions necessary for opening the negotiating clusters in its EU accession talks, and the corresponding political decisions are now needed.
As previously reported, in Tallinn, Zelenskyy met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The two leaders discussed European efforts to develop anti-ballistic defense capabilities and preparations for an agreement under the Drone Deal framework.
