In Tallinn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first meeting with Latvia’s new Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, UATV English reports.

The Head of State congratulated Kulbergs on his recent appointment and wished him success in his new role.

“We are always pleased to see our Latvian friends. We know that we can count on your support. We are grateful for the excellent relations between our peoples and for all the assistance Latvia has provided to Ukraine throughout this terrible war,” Zelenskyy said.

Andris Kulbergs outlined the priorities of his government and reaffirmed Latvia’s support for Ukraine and for Ukrainians currently living in Latvia.

The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Latvia signed a Drone Deal. It is the sixth agreement of this kind concluded by Ukraine with international partners. The deal opens up broad opportunities for Ukraine and Latvia in joint production, particularly in defense cooperation needed to address current security challenges.

Latvia will contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including support in the fields of drones, air defense, and missile defense. The agreement предусматривает the supply of defense products, financing of Ukrainian defense production, expansion of defense-industrial cooperation, and the exchange of technologies, expertise, and knowledge, including in the development of an integrated air-defense system.

Zelenskyy briefed the Latvian prime minister on Ukraine’s air-defense needs and thanked Latvia for supporting the PURL program. Kulbergs confirmed that additional contributions are currently being prepared.

The two leaders also discussed sanctions pressure on Russia, particularly tougher measures against Russia’s shadow fleet, which uses, among other routes, the Baltic Sea to transport energy resources in circumvention of international sanctions.
