NATO Military Committee Holds Field Meeting for the First Time in Ukraine

On April 18, the meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Military Committee took place in Ukraine for the first time ever.

The event was held at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy in Lviv. This was reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

The meeting was held with the purpose of deepening the military-political dialog between Ukraine and NATO. The NATO delegation was briefed on changes in the security situation in Ukraine and around its state borders.

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Petr Pavel, assured that the alliance supports Ukraine.

Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Oleh Syniutka, pointed to the growth of support among Ukrainian citizens about the country’s membership to NATO. According to him, 80 percent of residents of Lviv region support integration with NATO.

“I am confident that with the support of the North Atlantic Alliance and joint efforts, we will defend Ukraine’s independence, and Eastern occupied territories and Crimea will be returned to us,” Syniutka wrote.

As it was reported earlier, NATO praised the fact that the Ukrainian government developed the Law on National Security and added provisions on civilian control over the military and special services.
