In Russia, the fact that Ukrainian diplomacy, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is entering the areas that Moscow considered its sphere of influence, a monopoly sphere of influence, causes the greatest irritation. “It irritates them, because they thought that there they were in control of the situation, there they were, if they were fighting, then with American influence. And here Ukraine comes out directly. This is what irritates them, of course. Therefore, the visit of Kolokoltsev, who did not give anything, is perceived ironically even in Russia, judging by the publications in the Telegram channels, because there is less control from official propaganda, and even representatives of the war party speak more freely, and express a variety of emotions, in including critical ones. Kolokoltsev (Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia) in Russia is perceived with a lot of irony. And this visit (to Saudi Arabia – ed.) also raised the question – what is the Minister of the Interior doing there? He studies the Saudi experience or, conversely, passes on his own experience. This is, of course, an attempt to somehow neutralize. But the level is different. Our President took part in the Arab League summit and met with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. And the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation made such a protocol official visit and nothing more. Therefore, this did not block the impact of the visit of President Zelensky,” he said.
As for the fact that Russians are greatly annoyed and deeply concerned about the fact that Ukraine is working on those sites where Russia has a monopoly influence, the political scientist gave another example.
“It was just last week, but it also caused a big wave and a sharp reaction in Moscow, when the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak published an article that was published in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, about the need to develop partnerships between Ukraine and the countries of Central Asia and at the same time where it was mentioned the long historical tradition of Russia’s imperialist influence on the countries of Asia, including Central Asia. And this immediately caused a surge of such a toxic response from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, ”he said.
The political scientist noted that in response to the Ukrainian formula of peace, Russia put forward “counter proposals”, which cannot be perceived without irony.
“The last story, when Ukraine clearly fixes its position, is both the strengthening of defense and the promotion of the peace formula, because everywhere Zelensky talks about the peace formula, about our position. Russia, in response to this, tried to state its position, its terms of peace, which cannot be perceived without irony. The Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation again speaks about denazification and demilitarization, that Ukraine must recognize territorial realities. This refers to the occupation of part of the Ukrainian territories. And before that, the most, perhaps, now quoted Russian character, the head of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin, bluntly said in an interview that both denazification and demilitarization failed, the whole world knows Ukraine, and Russia has actually discredited itself in Ukraine. This is the confession of a man who is fighting against Ukraine, Putin’s loyal campaigner. Here’s a contrast for you, ”says Fesenko.
Therefore, he stated, Russia is trying to somehow react informationally and politically, but it comes out clumsily and looks pale.
“The most important thing is that we see offensiveness, the initiative belongs to Ukraine, and Russia only reacts. She does not impose, as it was before. It is not Russia that imposes the rules on us, the scenario of the game when we are forced to react to it. And now vice versa. Ukraine has the initiative, and Russia is forced to respond to the actions of Ukraine,” Volodymyr Fesenko summed up.
Active foreign trips of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are a demonstration that Ukraine today is more stable in the international arena. According to experts, Zelensky’s participation in the Arab League summit and the G7 (“Big Seven”) summit in Japan was not only effective for Ukraine against the backdrop of an approaching offensive at the front, but also indicative of the aggressor country.
