From the army’s point of view, the most important thing is the production of diesel, since Soviet equipment is mainly designed for diesel fuel. Significant damage and production delays to those plants that produce diesel fuel could negatively affect the mobility of the Russian army in the medium term. The shortage of aviation fuel, which is not produced in such large quantities as diesel, will affect the work of Russian aviation on the front line. This opinion was expressed by Razom We Stand communications manager Maxim Gardus on the FREEDOM TV channel.

He noted that the army tends to stockpile supplies, including fuel reserves for military equipment.

“We need to pay attention not only to attacks on oil refineries on the territory of the Russian Federation, but also to the fact that from time to time someone blows up oil depots in the regions bordering Russia, and this is definitely related to the restriction of army movement,” Gardus explained.

According to the expert, aviation kerosene is a rarer commodity than diesel, and not all refineries produce it.

“For its production, finer and more expensive equipment is needed, because the requirements for the quality of cleaning are very high. And this is extremely important, because, unfortunately, today we see that Russia has an aviation advantage over Ukraine in the air. But it will be very difficult to import jet fuel from the Russian Federation,” he noted.

Gardus also spoke about how the fuel shortage in the Russian Federation will affect the civilian sector.

“I think they will begin to reserve other strategic sectors for themselves. This is a railway, they will try to come up with some kind of mechanism to provide for the farmers, because the sowing season is coming soon. And as a result of these lobbying actions of some structures that will try to protect their reserves, there will be a shortage for small and medium-sized businesses, for example, carriers. In addition, regional imbalances will arise. The biggest problems will be in the European part of Russia, and in order to solve them, they will try to transfer fuel from the east,” the expert opined.
