The European Union is expected to decide on July 8 whether to approve the opening of the sixth accession negotiation cluster for Ukraine, European Pravda reported, citing EU sources, UATV English reports.

The Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) is scheduled to vote on the results of the screening process covering the external relations cluster as part of the EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.

According to the report, during a meeting of the EU enlargement working group on July 3, Hungary’s representative agreed to approve the screening results.

If no further objections are raised, the sixth negotiation cluster for Ukraine and Moldova could be formally opened during the EU General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on July 14.

The move would mark another step forward in Ukraine’s EU accession process as Kyiv continues implementing reforms required under the bloc’s enlargement framework.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka outlined the progress of Ukraine’s accession negotiations, including the assessment of reforms and the next stages of the country’s path toward EU membership.
