Belarus continues to expand its military infrastructure near the Ukrainian border despite the absence of a Russian strike group on its territory, Ukrainian Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko said, UATV English reports.
Speaking on national television, Demchenko said Ukrainian intelligence has observed ongoing construction of military facilities, including training grounds, logistics routes, and sites capable of accommodating troops and military equipment.
“Activity in Belarus is visible in the continued development of military infrastructure. This includes training grounds, locations that could accommodate personnel or equipment in the future, and logistics routes,” Demchenko said.
According to him, most of the construction is taking place opposite Ukraine’s Chernihiv and Kyiv regions, while significantly less activity has been observed near the borders with Volyn and Rivne regions.
Demchenko stressed that Ukraine currently does not see any strike grouping deployed in Belarus that would indicate preparations for an imminent offensive.
At the same time, he said Russia continues to pressure Belarus into taking a more active role in the war against Ukraine.
“Russia continues to pressure Belarus to become more deeply involved in the war it launched against our country. Belarus is resisting this pressure and trying to avoid being drawn further into the conflict,” he said.
Despite Minsk’s reluctance, Demchenko emphasized that the threat from the northern direction remains.
“The threat to Ukraine along this axis persists. Our task is to continue strengthening defensive capabilities along the border and in border areas so that we are prepared for any possible developments,” he said.
The Border Guard Service also noted that Ukrainian forces have not detected attempts by Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRGs) to infiltrate from Belarusian territory.
