The Russian invaders tried to capture Pisky again the day before. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled the Russian offensive. Fighting in this area continues. On the Avdiyivka-Pisky sector in the Donetsk region, the line of defense is stable. On August 5, Military expert Oleg Zhdanov said this today on the air of the marathon “Ukraine Speaks” on the Dom and UA TV channels.
The expert explained how the situation stabilized in this area:
“Our additional forces and artillery approached there. That`s why the situation has more or less stabilized now. It was an attempt to break through our defense. Nevertheless, it has been fortified there since 2014. In the Donetsk region, in the Avdiyivka-Pisky section, the defensive line has not shifted almost a meter. Except for indentations in the area of Avdiyivka and Pisky .”
Zhdanov emphasized the inability of the Russian troops to accumulate enough reserves to continue a powerful offensive:
“The sectors of the front on which they are able to concentrate such efforts are getting smaller and smaller. They are now limited in general to two settlements. And at the same time, with such concentration, we managed to maintain the situation and more or less stabilize it.”
He explained the main tactic of Russian forces in Donetsk region:
“Russians began to make a breach in our defensive lines. They are trying to break through it to the end, in order to break through our defenses. They realized that from the side of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk they would not enter the Donetsk region. Today, in the Sloviansk direction, the fighting is practically less active than it was a week or two ago. They are coming in from the southeast. That`s why they are trying to storm Bakhmut from all sides. Moreover, they decided to break through our defenses from Avdiyivka to Pisky. It is in this area. This is the only section that is still on the 2014 defense line.”
Nowadays, Russians are conducting an offensive operation in the Bakhmut and Avdiyivka directions. They are trying to create favorable conditions for the capture of Soledar and Bakhmut. This is making for expanding the controlled territory on the western outskirts of Donetsk.
