On June 14, a NATO summit takes place in Brussels. One of the topics for discussion at the Alliance summit will be security in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as in the Azov and Black Sea regions. UATV reports this.
“First of all, of course they will talk about the Black Sea security, because the three NATO member states are the Black Sea states – namely, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. The second thing is to ensure Ukrainian territorial integrity and independence. They’ll also discuss additional joint exercises, and the exchange of information, as well as the accumulation of Russian troops”, – said Hanna Shelest, Director of Security Programs at Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism”.
Foreign experts also confirm that the issue of Russia’s aggression will become one of the topics of the summit.
“The US knows they need to talk to Russia. Diplomacy cannot be a reward for good behavior, otherwise, there would be no diplomacy in the world. The US has interests with Russia in arms control, military stability, and greater transparency in exercises. It is good that Biden is going to talk to NATO, the European Union and the G7 before he goes to Geneva for talks with Putin“, – said Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium Jamie Shea.
Ukraine is not a NATO member, so it will not be able to take part in the summit. The fact that the country has not yet received an Action Plan for Membership in the Alliance is also Russia’s guilt, experts are sure.
“All decisions in NATO are made by consensus, and we understand that Russia’s hybrid war is aimed at separating 30 member countries so that they cannot make a common decision”, – said Valery Kravchenko, director of the Center for International Security.
Ukraine has been waiting for NATO membership since 2008. However, there have been no global changes in 13 years. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced that they would change tactics – moving from requests to demands.
