Ukrainian Holodomor Victims Commemorated in NY

In New York, the Ukrainian community commemorated the victims of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin’s forced starvation of the Ukrainian people, the 1932-33 Holodomor. The memorial service was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

On Nov. 17, representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic clergy jointly held the memorial service, accompanied by the Dumka choir and under the leadership of Vasyl Grechinskyi, the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York wrote on its website.

After that, Ukrainian Congress Committee of America President Andriy Futey, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko, and Consul General of Ukraine in New York Oleksiy Holubov gave speeches.

Twenty-four American states have recognized Holodomor as a genocide against the Ukrainian nation.
