Drought in Crimea

The Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula is suffering from drought and there are fears that the region’s reservoirs will soon be depleted.

According to Volodymyr Bazhenov, CEO of Voda Kryma, a company located in the Russian-occupied Crimea, there is a “wild evaporation of water” in all Crimean surface reservoirs.

Before the illegal Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014, Crimea had at times received some 85 percent of its water supply from mainland Ukraine during dry summer months.

Russia has not provided a replacement for water nor paid past water bills due Ukraine.

Since June 2, the districts of Krasnohvardiiske, Nyzhniohirskiy, Pervomaiske and Sovietskiy in occupied Crimea declared states of emergency.
