Poroshenko and Erdogan Meet and Discuss Cooperation

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on June 12.

Petro Poroshenko wrote about it on Facebook.

“During the meeting with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the importance of completing the negotiation process on a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey was emphasized. Ways of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, aviation and defense spheres were also discussed,” Poroshenko wrote.

Porosehnko called on Erdogan to assist in the release of Ukrainian hostages, and he thanked Turkey for the continued support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the protection of the rights of Crimean Tatars.

In addition, the leaders discussed the organization of a regular meeting within the framework of the Ukrainian-Turkish High-Level Strategic Council, as well as the implementation of the initiative to hold a tripartite summit with Ukraine, Turkey and Azerbaijan .

Poroshenko is on a working visit to Turkey from yesterday. He participated in the launch of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).

A number of bilateral meetings with leaders of foreign states are scheduled on the agenda of the Ukrainian leader.

Poroshenko has already met with the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. They spoke about intensifying cooperation in the energy sector. Also, Poroshenko discussed  strengthening economic ties with Serbia with the president of the country, Aleksandar Vucic.
