President Volodymyr Zelenskyy marked Ukraine’s Statehood Day by emphasizing the country’s thousand-year tradition of statehood and its determination to build a secure and independent future, UATV English reports.
In an address dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Statehood and the Day of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus–Ukraine, Zelenskyy said Ukrainians are the heirs of Kyivan Rus and the Cossack state, with a millennium-long history of nation-building.
“We are proud that we are the heirs of Kyivan Rus, the Cossack state, and possess a thousand-year experience of building our state,” Zelenskyy said.
The president described Ukraine’s history as one of courage, freedom and independence, adding that the country’s resilience has been evident throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“This is Ukraine’s thousand-year character,” he said.
Zelenskyy stressed that while Ukraine honors its history and remembers both the triumphs and hardships of its people, the country remains focused on shaping its future.
“We are not living by constantly looking back. We are working on the history of the Ukraine that will be. On a state that will succeed. On an independence that will be guaranteed,” the president said.
