Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Évian on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, focusing on military assistance, air defense, and increasing pressure on Russia, UATV English reports.
According to Zelenskyy, the leaders discussed Germany’s continued defense support for Ukraine, with particular attention given to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.
The talks also covered the current situation on the battlefield and the impact of Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities against Russian military targets.
A separate part of the meeting was devoted to implementing the agreements reached during the G7–Ukraine meeting earlier in the day. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine’s military effectiveness should be reinforced by stronger international pressure on Moscow.
“It is important that Ukraine’s effectiveness on the battlefield and in long-range operations is complemented by effective global pressure on Russia,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelenskyy thanked Germany for its continued support and praised Berlin’s leadership in helping protect Ukrainian civilians from large-scale Russian attacks.
The Ukrainian leader also expressed gratitude for Germany’s backing of Ukraine’s European Union membership aspirations, describing such support as important for the Ukrainian people.
