Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine and Canada are working on a major Drone Deal aimed at expanding cooperation in the production of unmanned systems and strengthening defense ties between the two countries, UATV English reports.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian, France, Zelenskyy said negotiations on the agreement are currently underway.
“We will make a Big Drone Deal with Canada,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelenskyy also noted that G7 leaders recognize Ukraine’s leadership in the field of security expertise, including lessons learned from defending against Russian aggression.
The announcement came after Zelenskyy met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. According to the Ukrainian president, the leaders discussed increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, defense cooperation, energy security, and support for Ukraine’s recovery.
Zelenskyy welcomed Canada’s decision to impose sanctions on more than 160 entities linked to Russia’s shadow fleet.
“It is important that such decisions are being made,” he said, thanking Ottawa for strengthening sanctions against Moscow.
The leaders also discussed Canada’s potential participation in financing Ukrainian drone production under the so-called Danish model, which allows partner countries to fund the manufacture of military equipment directly in Ukraine.
In addition, Canada pledged to continue supporting Ukraine’s energy sector and reconstruction efforts.
Zelenskyy thanked Carney for his support during the G7–Ukraine meeting and praised Canada’s continued commitment to assisting Ukraine.
“We truly have strong allies and significant personal engagement from the Prime Minister in supporting Ukraine. This is very valuable,” Zelenskyy said.
Drone Deal is a Ukrainian-led format of security cooperation that includes joint production of drones, missiles, electronic warfare systems, and air defense technologies, as well as the exchange of battlefield experience. Canada would become one of the latest countries to join the initiative, following a series of similar agreements signed by Ukraine with international partners.
