Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the G7 Summit, world leaders and EU officials demonstrated a united position regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine and the need to increase pressure on the Kremlin.
The Ukrainian head of state made the remarks during an online appearance at the Reuters Next Conference, UATV English reports.
Zelenskyy stated that everyone except Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees that the war must come to an end. Therefore, pressure on Russia should be increased, primarily through sanctions.
The Ukrainian president also said that during his conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, he raised the issue of obtaining licenses to produce anti-ballistic missiles.
“We discussed this issue of strengthening air defense with President Trump. Our teams will continue working on it. God willing, this time we will succeed in obtaining licenses for the production of the relevant anti-ballistic systems and missiles,” Zelenskyy said.
Summarizing his meetings with G7 leaders, Zelenskyy added:
“All G7 countries — and this was evident throughout today’s summit — fully support Ukraine. All countries condemned the strikes against civilian infrastructure, our people, and the Lavra. (…) Everyone believes that the war must be stopped. It is logical. Everyone believes they do not see any willingness on Russia’s part. Russia is playing games, meaning above all that Putin does not want to end the war. But he must be compelled to do so, primarily through sanctions.”
Earlier, President Trump confirmed that he had a “good” meeting with President Zelenskyy during the G7 Leaders’ Summit and stated that “Russia should make a deal.”
