The United States is interested in adopting Ukraine’s expertise in both the use of UAVs and counter-drone technologies. According to media reports, Hegseth made this statement during a Senate committee hearing, as cited by RBС-Ukraine, UATV English reports.
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell described Ukraine as the “Silicon Valley of war” and asked whether Hegseth supports sending Pentagon officials there to learn from this experience.
Hegseth confirmed this and noted that he personally approved the deployment of additional personnel. The goal of these missions is to study drone technologies directly on the battlefield.
“So that we can draw every possible lesson from this conflict and implement them in real time into our defense and offense in an era where drone dominance is essential,” he said.
According to Hegseth, this is precisely why a significant portion of the defense budget is being allocated to drones.
“Take the lessons learned from Ukraine and other battlefields and ensure their rapid implementation across all branches of the armed forces,” he added.
Senator Chris Coons also described Ukraine as a leader in drone development and counter-drone warfare. He recalled that the United States, during its confrontation with Iran, faced the challenge of cheap mass-produced “Shahed”-type drones, and urged Washington to recognize that Ukraine already has answers to this threat.
