King Charles III called on Western allies to strengthen their support for Ukraine during an address to the United States Congress, as debates continue over further assistance to Kyiv.
According to UATV English, the British monarch delivered his speech at the U.S. Capitol, with the address broadcast by Sky News.
In his remarks, Charles emphasized that today’s challenges require the same unity and determination the United States and the United Kingdom demonstrated during pivotal moments of modern history. He referenced World War II, the Cold War, Afghanistan and other defining periods when both nations stood shoulder to shoulder.
“The same steadfastness that Americans and Britons demonstrated through two world wars, the Cold War, Afghanistan, and at moments that shaped our shared security is required to protect Ukraine and its brave people — and to secure a truly just and lasting peace,” the King said.
According to media reports, the mention of Ukraine drew applause from American lawmakers.
The monarch also drew parallels with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, underscoring the enduring partnership between Washington and London.
“We stood with you then. And we stand with you now,” Charles III stressed.
This marks the first state visit by a British monarch to the United States since 2007. Charles III became only the second British sovereign to address Congress, following Queen Elizabeth II, who spoke there in 1991.
