CNN reports, citing a Western intelligence official, that Russia is sharing drone warfare tactics with Iran that were developed during the war against Ukraine.

According to the source, Moscow is providing tactical advice that could help Iran strike targets belonging to the United States and Gulf countries in the Middle East, UATV English reports.

Previously, reports indicated that Russian intelligence offered Iran general assistance in selecting targets. However, providing specific tactical guidance marks a new level of support.

“What had previously been general support is now increasingly concerning, including UAV targeting strategies that Russia used in Ukraine,” the Western intelligence official told CNN.

The report notes that Russia used Iranian-designed Shahed drones against Ukraine in coordinated waves, with multiple drones flying together and frequently changing course to evade air defense systems.

According to the source, Shahed drones launched by Iran were unexpectedly successful in penetrating the air defense systems of several countries in the Persian Gulf region.

The intelligence official also expressed concern about broader Iranian activities in the region, including the possible use of naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks using maritime drones and fishing vessels.

Iran previously claimed it struck the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier at the beginning of the conflict, but the United States denied the claim.

Earlier, on February 28, the United States and Israel carried out joint strikes on facilities belonging to the Iranian regime. Iran later attacked U.S. bases in Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Jordan.

According to media reports, Russia is also providing Iran with information that could assist in attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East, suggesting that another major U.S. adversary is indirectly involved in the conflict.
