Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that the European Union, together with the United States, could exert more effective pressure on Russia by strengthening coordinated sanctions.

He made the remarks during a discussion at the Munich Security ConferenceUATV English reports.

“In my view, Russia’s economy is extremely vulnerable. We have a lot of data showing that they are suffering greatly. And the shadow fleet — the arrests of vessels belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet — is one way of applying sanctions. But if we were really more serious, through joint massive sanctions together with the United States we would have a huge impact on Russia; we could do much more,” Kristersson said.

He emphasized that coordinated transatlantic action would significantly increase the effectiveness of economic pressure on Moscow.

As previously reported, the 62nd Munich Security Conference opened on February 13. The three-day event brings together up to 1,000 participants from nearly 120 countries, including almost 60 heads of state and government, 56 foreign ministers, more than 30 defense ministers, and leaders of over 40 international organizations.
